2009 Maladroits season report

Played 17, Won 10, Lost 7

With the 2010 cricket season soon upon us now is a good chance to recap on our most successful season yet. In 2009 the Maladroits won 10 out of their 17 games, the quality of teas was exceptional and there were some spectacular drops to be enjoyed too.

Early signs were that old age, marriages and injuries were catching up on us with big defeats to both Sheen and the schoolboys of Charterhouse.

However, this soon changed with a great victory over the Jesmond Jaguars- achieved through taking 9 catches, many exceptional, to bowl the Jaguars out for under 150. Another highlight included a win by 1 run over Bedford Row with JC taking the 10th wicket in a nail biting final over. Defeates against both archrivals, the Drovers and the Full Tossers were avenged by victories in the return leg at Sheen with fine all round performances.

Wins were clocked up against Ebernoe, Mustard Menaces and the Battersea Ironsiders- the only frustration was two losses to landlords Sheen, where Dusty cast his usual spell on our batsmen. Mention must go to JC who scored useful and quick runs at the top of the order and Ed Ryder who came in low down but consistently rescued the "Maladroit collapse" (is it in the dictionary yet?). Dom and Tricky were a committed and sometimes unlucky new ball pairing with additional quality added when Bealo could play.

Tea making was in many cases worthy of Michelin stars with the “Chad Ginger cordial”, Lees and Bowes patisseries & biltong and Lockies “PSWs” only eclipsed by the feast rolled out by Chef Mikey for 25 guests at the Last Night of the Proms.

Final mention must go to the new Maladroits in their debut seasons. Ash “Riverdance” Retter, Fred “Yes sir” Auld, Mark “the Bucket” Bowden, “Away swing” Rob and “In swing” Bob (Bowen and Nelson) and Tom “ Devon Malcolm on form playing against the Maladroits, Malcolm off form for the Maladroits” Daniel. There were also lots of valuable “Chesney” one off appearances from others throughout the season.. Great support was also shown throughout the season from many WAGS and a few Malanippers were also there to support (and hopefully not learn too much from)their Dads. Tricky "Do as I say, not as I do"..

All in all, a top season for the Maladroits and one to build on for the 2010 summer..
